About Us

Founded in 2014, the Support Network for Indigenous Women & Women of Colour (SNIWWOC) is a Canadian non-profit organization committed to the empowerment of women. We operate from a holistic and integrative service model that addresses the social, cultural and political realities of immigrant and indigenous communities. Our work is informed by a commitment to reproductive justice. Reproductive justice recognizes that struggles for sexual and reproductive rights is not a singular issue. It has to be linked to wider struggles against oppression (racism, sexism, colonization, immigration rights, income, education, etc). These intersecting oppressions can limit a person's ability to have control over their body.
SNIWWOC’s drive to create these courses stems from our deep commitment to addressing the racism and inequities our clients face in healthcare. As an organization led by and for racialized women, we are the community we serve. We are intimately connected to the lived realities of our clients. Many have shared their fears and discomfort when navigating the healthcare system, with some hesitant to attend medical appointments alone due to experiences of bias and discrimination. This led to the creation of our peer support program.
Recognizing that one-on-one support, while vital, is not enough to combat systemic challenges, we sought to create broader, transformative change. These courses are a response to those stories—a way to equip healthcare professionals with the knowledge, tools, and empathy needed to address systemic racism, foster inclusive care, and ensure that every patient is treated with dignity and respect.
By amplifying frontline insights and fostering dialogue, we aim to empower healthcare workers to become allies and advocates for equity, creating a ripple effect of change within their workplaces and communities.
